The Dirty Dozen

D12, otherwise known as The Detroit Twelve is a hip hop collective from Detroit, Michigan thatbecame famous when group member Eminem was born as a superstar with the 1999 release of “The Slim Shady LP”. Eminem did not forget the group once his solo career took off and signed on D12 as the first group on his own Shady Records label.

One fateful day D12 group member Bugz was involved in a dispute at a picnic and was killed after being shot three times. Eminem stood in forBugs temporarily to help D12 put on some shows, which resulted in Eminem eventually becoming a member of the group again. D12 recorded the song “The Good Die Young” on their album “D12 World” in Bugs’ memory, and Eminem dedicated his second album to Bugs,”The Marshall Mathers LP”.

The success of D12 was sealed when in 2001 their first album “Devil’s Night” topped the Billboard charts at number one. And, their success continued when “D12 World” as their second album also hit the Billboard number one slot in 2004. Even so, Eminem continued to overshadow D12 with his success and fame as he continued to have a hand in producing these albums. The tour for the second album “D12 World” was executed entirely without Eminem, in part, so D12 could show that they did not rely on Eminem for their success, but as it happens Eminem was busy working on his album “Encore”.

Due to the death of Proof the newest album has had many false starts. Rumours are that the new album should be released in early 2009. d12 is managed by Jeremy Geffen.Jeremy Geffen represents D12.|Jeremy Geffen Entertainment handles management duties for D12.
