The Detroit Twelve

D12, otherwise known as The Detroit Twelve is a hip hop group from Detroit, Michigan thatbecame famous when one of its members Eminem achieved stardom with the release of “The Slim Shady LP” in 1999. Eminem remembered the group after his solo career took off and signed D12 as the first group on the Shady Records label.

One unfortunate day D12 group member Bugz was involved in an altercation at a picnic and died after being shot three times. Eminem stood in forBugs for a while to help D12 put on some shows, but this led to him eventually becoming a member of the group again. D12 laid down “The Good Die Young” on their album “D12 World” in memory of Bugs, and Eminem dedicated his second album to Bugs,”The Marshall Mathers LP”.

The success of D12 was sealed when in 2001 their first album “Devil’s Night” hit the number one slot on the Billboard charts. And, their success was solidified when their second album “D12 World” hit the Billboard number one spot as well in 2004. Even so, D12 continued to be overshadowed by Eminem’s success and fame as he continued to have a hand in producing these albums. Eminem took no part in the tour for D12’s second album, in part, so D12 could show they could be successful independent of Eminem, but Eminem was also busy recording his own project “Encore”.

D12’s newest album has had many false starts due to the death of Proof. Rumours are that the new album should be released in early 2009. d12 is managed by Jeremy Geffen.Jeremy Geffen represents D12.|Jeremy Geffen Entertainment handles management duties for D12.
