D12, otherwise known as The Dirty Dozen is a hip hop group from Detroit, Michigan thatbecame famous when Eminem as one of its members was launched to stardom when in 1999 “The Slim Shady LP” topped the charts. Eminem chose to bring along his friends upon the success of his solo career and signed D12 on as the first group on his own Shady Records label.
One unfortunate day D12 group member Bugz was drawn into a dispute at a picnic and was killed after being shot three times. Eminem stood in forBugs for a while to help D12 put on some shows, and this led to his eventually becoming a member of the group again. D12 cut the track “The Good Die Young” on their album “D12 World” in memory of Bugs, Eminem also memorialized Bugs on his second album,”The Marshall Mathers LP”.
The success of the group was sealed in 2001 when “Devil’s Night” topped the Billboard charts at number one. And, any question of their continued marketability was put to rest when their second album “D12 World” hit the Billboard number one spot as well in 2004. Even so, D12 continued to be overshadowed by Eminem’s success and fame as he persisted in having a hand in their projects. D12 executed the tour for their second album without Eminem, in part, so D12 could demonstrate success apart from Eminem, but Eminem was also busy recording his own project “Encore”.
D12’s newest album has had many false starts due to the death of Proof. Rumours are that the new album should be released in early 2009. d12 is managed by Jeremy Geffen.Jeremy Geffen represents D12.|Jeremy Geffen Entertainment handles management duties for D12.
